Cantine Aperte (Open Cellars)

Cantine Aperte (Open Cellars)

This is a beloved event in Italy where wineries open their doors to visitors, offering tours, tastings, and a chance to explore the art of winemaking up close. Here’s everything you need to know to participate:

When

Cantine Aperte traditionally takes place on the last weekend of May each year.

Some regions also hold additional events throughout the year, such as Cantine Aperte in Vendemmia (during the grape harvest in September), Cantine Aperte at Christmas, and Cantine Aperte in San Martino (November).

How to Participate

Plan Ahead

Check the official website of the Movimento Turismo del Vino (Wine Tourism Movement) for the list of participating wineries and dates, as each region might have specific schedules.

Popular wineries may require advance bookings, so it’s best to secure your spot early.

Choose Your Region and Wineries

Decide which region you’d like to explore, whether it’s Tuscany, Piedmont, or another renowned wine area. Each region offers unique wines, traditions, and landscapes.

Many wineries offer a variety of experiences, from simple tastings to full tours with food pairings.

Purchase Tickets (if required)

Some wineries offer free entry, while others may charge a small fee for tastings or tours.

The ticket often includes a glass and a bag, allowing you to move between wineries in the same area.

Get Ready for a Full Day Experience

Bring comfortable walking shoes, as some cellars require a bit of exploration.

Many wineries offer guided tours, workshops, and even entertainment, making it a full-day event.

Taste Responsibly

If you’re planning to visit multiple wineries, consider arranging transportation, such as a tour service, or use a designated driver.

Cantine Aperte is a unique way to experience Italy’s winemaking culture, enjoy the countryside, and meet the passionate artisans behind Italy’s famous wines!
